Annual versus monthly: how much does committing save?
Committing to a year saves the most on Codecademy, where the monthly-billed price is double the annual rate: Plus is $14.99 a month billed annually or $29.99 billed monthly, and Pro is $19.99 or $39.99. Coursera Plus costs $59 a month month to month against $33.25 on the $399 annual plan, 77% more. Pluralsight's gap is the smallest: its $29 libraries cost $299 a year, $24.92 a month, so monthly billing is 16% more.
The annual plan only wins if you keep using it. Coursera Plus annual pays for itself after 6.8 months of the $59 monthly price, the arithmetic our Coursera pricing page walks through; a learner who finishes a goal in three months pays less monthly.
What counts as "unlimited" on each?
Unlimited means unlimited watching on every plan here, but certificates, projects and offline viewing differ. DataCamp Premium includes its certifications "so there are no additional costs"; Coursera Plus includes certificates on most of its catalogue; Codecademy's career paths say professional certification is "available with Pro". MasterClass and Skillshare list no certificates on their pricing pages. Domestika Plus is different again: its subscription comes with "one Plus credit each month" to exchange for a course you keep forever.

For creative skills, MasterClass Standard ($10), Domestika Plus ($13.79 in year one) and Skillshare ($13.99) are all under $15 a month on annual billing, and CreativeLive's Creator Pass is $299 a year, reduced from $499.

Cancel and refund terms
MasterClass offers a 30-day satisfaction guarantee on all plans, and Coursera Plus annual a 14-day money-back guarantee. Coursera Plus monthly, Skillshare and Pluralsight start with free trials of 7, 7 and 10 days. Which subscription to pick
- If you want the lowest price and no certificate, choose MasterClass Standard, because $120 a year is $10 a month, the lowest here, with a 30-day guarantee.
- If you want to pay month to month, choose Udemy Personal Plan, because from $13 a month it is the cheapest plan here with a monthly option.
- If you need certificates for a data career, choose DataCamp Premium, because $14 a month billed annually includes its certifications.
- If you are learning to code, start on Codecademy Basic for free and pay $14.99 a month for Plus on annual billing, because monthly billing doubles it.
- If you want university or Google certificates, choose Coursera Plus annual at $399 if you will study seven months or more, and monthly at $59 if you will not.
- If you are a creative learner on a budget, take Domestika Plus for the first year at $164.50, and diary the $329 renewal.
We read each platform's own pricing page on 19 October 2026 and recorded every price exactly as published in US dollars. Per-month figures on annual billing are the annual price divided by 12, except Domestika, whose own page shows $13.79 a month for its $164.50 yearly payment; the monthly-billed premium is the monthly price divided by that figure, minus one. Udemy's pages refused our automated read on 19 October 2026, so its row carries the 14 October 2026 figure. LinkedIn Learning shows its individual price only after sign-in and is not ranked. Brilliant Premium shows $20 a month for an individual without stating the billing period in its page text, so it is not ranked either. Prices change; each row shows the date it was read.

Federal data behind this page
What a programme costs, what aid exists and how subscription billing is regulated are published by federal agencies rather than by any provider, and the primary sources are below so a reader can check them directly.
- Federal Student Aid states what federal aid exists and who qualifies; most subscription course platforms are not eligible for it, which is why their trial and refund terms matter.
- CFPB paying for college documents how education financing works and where its common traps are.
- College Scorecard publishes federal cost, completion and earnings data for accredited programmes, the comparison point for any certificate sold as a degree alternative.
- FTC Negative Option Rule is the federal rule on offers that turn into paid subscriptions unless you cancel, which is how most free trials work.
- National Center for Education Statistics is the federal statistical agency most published education figures trace back to.
This page compares published prices and terms. What a plan costs you depends on the offer shown at your checkout, your country and the date you sign up.
