Schools that bill your employer or wait for your tuition reimbursement
Most employer tuition plans pay you back after the course, so you front the money. These 20 schools say on their own pages that they invoice your employer, push your due date past the term, or discount tuition for partner employers.
- Direct bill (10 arrangements): the school sends the invoice to your employer, so you pay only the uncovered part.
- Deferment (10): you register now and pay after the term, typically 30 to 45 days after it ends, sometimes for a fee ($45 a term at Denver, $50 at Western Michigan).
- Partner discounts (4): lower tuition for employees of named partner companies.
- Not universal: Johns Hopkins Engineering for Professionals does not let you register with a balance due. Check before you enroll.
- Your cash committed
- Nothing owed yet
- Employer pays
The directory
Every row quotes the school's own page and links to it. We list a school only when its page says it plainly; schools whose pages we could not read, or that only describe the arrangement in a blog post, are left out until we can.

When a benefits administrator sits in the middle
Many large employers run tuition through an administrator rather than paying schools themselves. Bright Horizons' EdAssist lists tuition payment vouchers among its employer services (its employer page), and in its 2025 benchmarking of its own clients reported that 60% provide prepaid tuition options, a group that includes direct billing alongside immediate reimbursement and virtual cards (Bright Horizons). That figure covers EdAssist clients, not all employers. If your plan runs through an administrator, ask it, not the school, how payment works.
That is the school side of the bill. For the employer side, our tuition benefits lookup lists what 66 US employers say they pay, how they pay it and who is eligible, each row taken from the employer's own page.
Frequently asked questions
Which schools bill your employer directly for tuition?
Among the schools we verified, 10 arrangements invoice the employer: Arizona State, Bellevue, Boston University, Capella, CSU Global, Louisville, UMGC (including its DC Public Schools alliance), University of Phoenix and Western Washington. Each school's own page is linked in the directory.
What is tuition deferment for employer reimbursement?
The school lets you register without paying, and moves your due date to after the term so your employer can reimburse you first. Drexel Online sets it at 30 days after the term, Bellevue at 45 days after the class, and some schools charge a fee, such as $45 a term at the University of Denver or a $50 enrollment fee at Western Michigan.
Do all schools defer tuition for employer reimbursement?
No. Johns Hopkins Engineering for Professionals, for example, says students are not permitted to register with a balance due, so you pay first and wait for your employer.
How much employer tuition help is tax-free?
Up to $5,250 a year in 2026 and $5,400 in 2027 under Section 127, whichever way the money flows, as long as your employer has a qualifying plan.
